Possible Causes:
A. Old Moistening Brushes
B. Water Level Adjustment Too High
C. Crack or Hole In Water Bottle
D. Crack or Hole In Water Tank
A. Old Moistening Brushes
If your tape machine leaks water the fix is usually simple. The main cause of leaking water is old brushes. Old brushes have a glue build up. The water in the tank travels up the brushes. The brushes hang over the sides where the water leak drips down
Quick Check:
Remove the water tank. On older machines the tank may be a little harder to remove. You should be able to lift slightly up on the tank, over the lip on the Tank Support Shelf If the tank is stuck, use a slotted screw driver to gently pry up on the bottom of the tank.
Look at the left side of the water tank (the side by the Key Drum). If you notice rust marks, that's probably where the water is leaking from.
Quick Fix:
Thoroughly wash out the tank & brushes in warm, soapy water (dish washing liquid works great). If the brushes are really old, order a new set (555-E107X).
Important Note: Remember to re-install the brushes the way the came out. They are cut on an angle to follow the direction of the tape flow. If you reverse them, your machine will jam constantly.
B. Water Level Adjustment Too High
The water tank has a water level adjustment screw on the right side The side by the motor cover). Loosen the thumb nut 0 and lower screw Lowering the screw lowers the bottle and the water level in the tank. For more water in the tank and on the tape, raise the screw
C. Crack or Hole In Water Bottle
D. Crack or Hole In Water Tank
A crack in the water bottle will cause the water to run through and flood the water tank. Though rare, check the tank to make sure it isn't leaking. Try removing the moistening brushes fill the tank with water, and set the tank aside. See if it still leaks. If it does, the tank may have a crack.
